Not always the easiest of emotions to handle, but in order to thrive in this life, we must let go.
Let’s talk a minute about what forgiveness is not. Forgiveness is not about changing your mind and agreeing with the person who wronged you.
Or it’s not about letting someone walk all over you and continue to do so.
And it’s not about giving in either.
What forgiveness is about is releasing this very negative emotion, not necessarily for the person in need of forgiveness, but for you!
If we carry bitterness in our hearts, it causes all sorts of problems. Problems like stress, depression, loss of sleep, or lack of focus. If it gets bad enough, or last long enough, it can even bring on a disease. Yes, or course not always, but many times our diseases such as high blood pressure, thyroid conditions and even some cancers can stem from stress or dis-ease stored in the very cells of our bodies.
So if you have someone who is in need of your forgiveness, realize that you aren’t perfect either, and whether they deserve it or not – decide to let it go, and then REALLY LET IT GO.
Don’t be bitter and throw out statements like, “Well I can forgive but I can never forget!” You aren’t fooling anybody saying that. LET IT GO!
It doesn’t mean you have to be their best friend, or even speak to them again for that matter. But let it go in your heart.
I promise you, you will be much happier if you do this.
Life is much more beautiful when we have a beautiful heart! Don’t you think?
